Your Child And The Choices You Make
When you send your children off to school, you place them in an environment where they will spend more 'awake' time each day than in your home with you. Just consider what this means. The school now becomes an overwhelming influence in shaping the future of your children in all aspects of their development, from social to moral and from aesthetic to cultural. In school they will be influenced by teachers, the school's aesthetic environment, their classmates, and the particular educational philosophy on which the school is founded. The choice you make in selecting a school for your children during these formative years is a most important decision in your life.
When you enter SWS, the first thing you may notice is the care given to the surroundings. The walls are painted in lively colours and are adorned with student artwork. Evidence of student activity is everywhere to be found and every desk holds uniquely created main lesson books.
Another first impression may be the enthusiasm and commitment of the teachers you meet. The teachers are interested in the students as individuals.
They are interested in the questions:
- How do we establish within each child his or her own high level of academic excellence?
- How do we call forth enthusiasm for learning and work, a healthy self-awareness, interest and concern for fellow human beings, and a respect for the world?
- How can we help pupils find meaning in their lives?
We hope to have given you a glimpse into Waldorf education and into the possibilities an education at SWS could offer your child, your family, and the world beyond. The next step is to come see for yourself, visit the campus, tour the classrooms, meet our teachers and get to know us better!
We welcome your questions and would love to share with you the beauty and excellence of our school, the dedication of the faculty, parents and community that together comprise SWS. To arrange for a visit, join us for a tour or admissions event, or arrange for an official classroom visit for your child contact our Admissions office today through our Inquire Now form.
"Waldorf education addresses the child as no other education does. learning, whether in chemistry, mathematics, history, or geography, is imbued with life and so with joy, which is the only true basis for later study. The textures and colours of nature, the accomplishments and struggles of humankind fill the Waldorf students' imaginations and the pages of their beautiful books. Education grows in union with life that serves them for decades.
By the time these students reach us at the college and university level, these students are grounded broadly and deeply and have a remarkable enthusiasm for learning. Such students possess the eye of the discoverer, and the compassionate heart of the reformer which, when joined to a task, can change the planet,"
